Colors play a major role in our day-to-day life by influencing us physically and mentally. There are many different types of colors – primary, secondary, tertiary. The primary colors are red, yellow and blue. The secondary colors green, orange and purple are obtained by mixing the primary colors and tertiary colors are obtained by mixing primary and secondary colors. Some tertiary colors are blue-purple, red-purple, red-orange, and yellow-orange. Warm colors are colors made up of red, orange, yellow or combination of these.
Warm colors give a feeling of brightness and heat. Cool colors are made up of blue, green and purple or combination of these giving a quite feeling. A tool was designed by Sir Isaac Newton in 1666 for combining colors. This tool is termed as Color wheel or Color circle consisting of twelve colors. This helps a lot in deciding the color combinations. A number of pleasing combinations are termed as color harmonies or color chords whose relation is fixed in the color wheel. The basic terminologies used in color are hue, pure hue, tints, shades, tone, intensity and luminance. Hue refers to a pure color without any added black or white pigment. Pure hue is the base color with its full intensity. when white is added to a pure hue and made lighter, it is called a tint, when black is added and made darker, it is called a shade

and when grey is added to a pure hue, it is called a tone.
Intensity or saturation or chromaticity is the brightness or the force of the color. Luminance or value is the lightness or darkness of a color.
