Of course, colors influence our appetite. Color and the appeal of foods are closely related. Of all the colors in the spectrum, Green, brown, red and other colors are more widely acceptable. The sight of food fires neurons in the hypothalamus. thus making us convinced before a food is even tried. Blue color is an appetite suppressant. Blue is a rare occurrence in food, no significant quantity available.
Nowadays they are being marketed especially for children. Weight loss plans are implemented by putting food on blue plates, using blue color light for dining area. We don’t have an automatic appetite response to blue. Several years ago, when our ancestors were foraging for food, blue, purple and black were considered as “Color Warning signs”. Blue colored food can be prepared by adding natural colored agents or dyes. Colors are significant and almost universally it is difficult to get a consumer to try a blue-colored food. Thus the appearance of food plays a major role in our appetite.
